late nite mem+mm update
this week i will be talking about "How it Feels to be Something On" by sunny day real estate which so far is probably the most recognizable mem+mm pick
i spent last week without AC and in all the heat wanted to find an album that matched that same overbearing, sweltering energy. The runner up for this would have
"departures and landfalls" by boys life - the album art there was in my mind a lot last week, but this album wins out for the actual tone of its tracks. It felt like a pretty accurate match to how I felt melting at my computer late each night. SDRE is pretty well respected emo band, and while I don't personally think this album is underrated or anything, it's still a pretty unique entry to the scene. The opening, "pillars" starts off with a pretty mellow post-hardcore sound, but almost like a trick pulls you into proggy psych sound. It's the interconnection between these genres that make the album stand out even now. While not quite as loud or fast-paced, if you're on a road trip with a bunch of friends who only like king gizzard, this is probably about the closest thing to emo you could put on the playlist without turning any heads.
