here i'll post songs from my playlist once per day unless i forget to

FIRST SONG: Sunken Ship from Red Sky, by Moon Hooch:

this song is really good. the wubs in the background are not a synth, they're actually a contrabass clarinet, which is a really cool name for an instrument. the trilled djembe-like percussion in the middle-ground is really good, and in the chorus it goes into some sort of loose call-and-response with the lyrics that's also really good. however the song gets a bit too powerful in the second chorus which sort of ruins the vibe. either way its a good song

SECOND SONG: Heavy Light from Animusic 2, by Animusic

Animusic was a big part of my childhood, and even now i still love it, but one part that i never remembered was that apparently Animusic has some Really Wacky Music Theory built into it. i dont know much about chords but i think Heavy Light for one uses some wacky chord progressions, and many of the songs have some funky time signatures like 5/4, 7/8, 11/8, and there's even a part in Acoustic Curves that's in flat-out free time. sadly Animusic may as well be abandoned, as there have been no offical updates on the rumored Animusic 3 for multiple years, from what i can find.
Heavy Light starts out in a pretty normal 4/4 (with some 7/8 bars), but multiple parts are in a additive 7/8+8/8 rhythm. instrumentation-wise, the song is very synthy, with everything except the drums being some form of synth. this combined with the setting of an ancient ziggurat temple thing and the cool chord progression, gives the song and ethereal sort of vibe which is really cool. give all of the Animusic songs a listen, they're really good!

THIRD SONG: High Seas from the Fisher-Diver soundtrack, by DVGmusic

Fisher-Diver is one of my favorite flash games, if not for the (pretty weak) plot then for the look, vibe, and music. this song gives a perfect feeling of diving into the ocean and watching the sea-life do sea-life stuff. it's a little short for the liking but it loops perfectly so it doesn't really matter. instrumentation-wise there's not much; just an adventurous xylophone in the foreground, a warm, strummy guitar in the midground, and some Wacky Sound Effects in the background, and that's all it needs. the Fisher-Diver soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks ever and i will fight you on that.

because threads burn up after 2 days rather than 1 i can do this here without fear of thread burning.
all of these will be moved to the normal playlist thread for connectivity purposes when i decide to leave hell. this will either be when there are 6 'now' votes on the poll or on april first

FOURTH SONG: Audiokinesis from The New Audiomatic Experience, by Famitory
(i cant post outbound links so i'll loophole by just posting the watch codes instead >:))))

i don't know what's going on here music-theory wise, but it sounds cool so there's that. instrumentation wise it's a reverbed(?) piano with some crunchy chiptuney noises in the background for most of the song, but at 1:47 it completely shifts gears into something hardcore-sounding that i don't know the name of, which transitions at 2:20 to something out of jerobeam fenderson's oscilloscope music album thing, which is pretty cool. give it a listen!

FIFTH SONG: Cue The Swarm from Creeper World III OST, by Finn M-K

this song uses polymeter!!! polymeter is a really underrated music trope where two different time signatures happen at the same time, giving a unique frame-shift effect that can't be matched by anything else, not even the related trope of polyrhythm. it's a really cool effect and it's extremely rare for some reason. instrumentation-wise the song is perfect. it really gives the feeling of War:tm: or something like that, which is perfect for the game's vibe. give the song a listen!!

SIXTH SONG: Midnight Cascade from Harmony Hacker, by Sevish

yeah michael tones! this song is tuned to 2.3.7 just intonation, specifically the same tuning as La Monte Young's The Well Tuned Piano. the harmonic seventh is a cool xenharmonic interval, and since 12ed2 misses it by 31 cents(!!!) it does not occur in typical western music. this song uses the 2.3.7 subgroup to make a warm good vibe. it's really cool and you should give the song a listen!

EIGHTH SONG: Starfish from Bubble, by Sevish

22ed2! 22ed2 is a zeta peak ed2, which means it approximates low-prime intervals very well for its size. while the 3/2 is technically worse than in 12ed2 at +7.136 cents compared to -2 cents and change, the 5/4 is far better at -4.496 cents versus +13.686 cents, and the 7/4 at +12.992 cents compared to +31.174 cents. it also uses 7edo at the end.
songwise, starfish is a very fun mario-kart-esque song, and in the bridge it uses a risset rhythm which is very cool. the instrumentation has a lotta synths and some really good drums. it's also in 10/4 sometimes. i have absolutely no idea what's going on with the chords though. take a listen!

NINTH SONG: Sunsrise by Supahstar Saga

someone asked about Those Michael Tones in the SHUT MOUTH and so i sent this song. this song is in 19ed2 and uses it very well. 19ed2 is a meantone tuning, which means it can sound like 12ed2. however gradually more xenharmonic things are introduced, culminating in a modulation from Bb to G# via a modulation through the porcupine scale (i think, or semaphore scale, also i think). and then a minor third cycle drift brings it back to Bb. i copied this mostly directly from the description. instrumentation wise it seems to use base instruments from MuseScore or something so it doesn't sound too good. but the composition pays off because it's so good. also it's in 5/4 for the most part. take a listen!

TENTH SONG: Aloe Vera by The Babe Rainbow

i haven't listened to this song in a long time. but it's Really Good so here it is. this song is really good. i love the vocals and the Drum Echo and the surf guitar and the bass and everything about it. its a really good song and the lyrics are fun to sing to. my only problem is that they should repeat "aloe vera" like four times in every chorus(?) instead of saying it just once. like you have the opportunity there! it would be so much better! just repeat it some more that would make a better chorus! you repeat a riff four times but you say the phrase once. it's a fun song take a listen!

1ST APRIL FOOLS SONG: Bad (Mad Because Bad) from Unnamed Michael Jackson's Moonwalker Corruption, found by Moogie

this is a really good cover! first off, the cover is very minimalist, with only a bass, a drum loop, and an occasional backing synth. secondly, the beginning decelerando(?) and bass sine wave is super cool. now we get to the juicy part: the bass lines. holy crap they are so good. they use liberated dissonance in such a good way, and the chord changes take me by suprise in a really really cool and fun way. this song is an amazing and innovative take on Bad by Michael Jackson. take a listen right now! do it! you wont regret it! no refunds!

ELEVENTH SONG: Melt from Realism by Brendan Byrnes

first things first. the bass synth on this song is so fruity. this is the most vibrant bass i have ever heard and it's great. the tuning of the song might be contributing to that: it's in 22ed2. this tuning has already been covered in the eighth song rec. and now to discuss the song itself: the instrumentation is so good in this song. it's so lush and fruity and etc. theres nice synths, nice vocals, nice claves(?), there's even a 22ed2 guitar in it! it's amazing. and this perfect instrumentation is throughout the entire Realism album. the only problem is that the lyrics are a bit cheesy, but that's basically nothing. Brendan Byrnes is a really skilled musician and you should take a listen to his music!

TWELTH SONG: Canyon from Super Mario and the Cursed Castles OST by Technomancer00

this song is pretty simple but songs dont need to be complex to be good. i uses what i think is the super mario 64 OST and it uses it really well to make a sort of mesa-desert vibe for the level. there's a constant something-or-other rhythm from (what i think is) the slap bass. i dont have much else for this song and it's 1:16 AM and i have to go to bed but the whole OST is pretty good, take a listen!

THIRTEENTH SONG: Geil Glacial Park from Project S-11 OST, by Jonne Valtonen and Aleksi Eben

this song is on a gameboy color! a gameboy color!!! every time i find something like this im amazed. this and most of the other songs from the Project S-11 OST is a bop. there are only four channels total, two square waves (i think), what is probably a sample channel or something, and a white noise channel. despite, and probably partly because, of these restrictions, the song is an amazing, exciting song. and there are around 8 or 9 of these songs. also this song uses maj. 2nd chord progression/melody stuffs and it's pretty cool. take a listen! i promise i will try to do this regularly again

FOURTEENTH SONG: Bulb, composed by Donnacha Dennehy, played by the Fidelio Trio

bet you forgot this thread existed. well i didnt.
this song is Long As Hell, clocking in at a little over 11 minutes. it is tuned roughly to the harmonic series of a really low G at around 24.5 hz, and it is played by a piano trio. it is structured based on many small 2-bar patterns, which weave in and out with each other in an aleatoric way and create a really good atmosphere. take a listen!

FIFTHEENTH SONG: Take as Many as you Like from Pix & Bit, by Patrica Taxxon

this song is Kinda Long at 6:35, but it's not at all repetitive. the main melody is in 5/4, but it's put forth so naturally that it doesn't feel like it. on top of that, the drums chug along in a constant 4/4 polymeter, and on top of *that* there's a 2:5 polyrhythm formed by some sort of clave-ish instrument. it's very good. some time later, the melody drops and we're left with this polymetric percussion rhythm with some bass stuff too and it's very good. then it comes back and does the same verse thing for a bit, and then it goes back to the rhythmic polymetric part but the introductory melody for that continues with it and it's all pretty good. it's really well produced, and all the instruments are good. the whole album is really good and you should take a listen!
