Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end
- Semisonic, "Closing Time"
Greetings faithful sandwich log readers, this is your humble logger. I write to you today with a heavy heart, because it is with great sadness I must announce that this will be the last post of the log. What started out as a lighthearted forum thread that I would wake up looking forward to has, over time, become an obligation and even a dreaded part of my day. I no longer recognize in myself the love of sandwiches which first animated this project. It's long past time I hang up my hat and reclaim the parts of my life which the log has slowly been overtaking: my relationships with my partner, my cats, my friends, and myself.
This is not to say that this moment isn't bittersweet. The log has seen me through some of the darkest passages of my life, and it's introduced me to a lot of intelligent, funny and kind people, some of whom I'm now privileged to count among my dearest friends. I've also gotten to see an amazing and curious community spring up around the log and grow into its own. The fact that I know this sandwich logging community will continue to thrive in my absence has made the decision to move on from it that much easier on me. Truth be told, I was always somewhat uncomfortable with the modest "celebrity" that a successful sandwich log afforded me, and I'm excited to see other loggers get the attention they've long deserved now that they no longer have to toil in my shadow. You all just have to promise you won't forget about me TOO fast.
Will I return to logging some day, in some form? I really can't say. It's not a possibility I'm completely ready to foreclose on, but all I know for now is that I'm ready to start a new chapter in my life, to look forwards instead of back (and to maybe get some damn sleep while I'm at it). My infinite love and gratitude goes out to everyone I've mentioned in this post. I hope we meet again some sunny day.
May your bread never go stale,
